I have restored a variety of antique gilded items and I’m often commissioned to produce new gilded pieces. I’ve gilded internal architectural features, large wrought iron gates and most recently copper baths. I enjoy the challenge of gilding something different.
I work with private individuals, antique dealers, interior designers, design agencies, auction houses and insurance companies (restoring water, fire and removal men damage).
Gilded objects such as a mirror, picture frame, or furniture, can become damaged over the years. Gilding discolours and frames can suffer knocks and lose pieces, then restoration is necessary. My workshop is fully equipped for antique gilding restoration. Always using traditional methods and materials and only gold leaf, mostly 23 ¾ carat gold.
Restoration work can vary from as little as repairing small chips in the gesso on the mirror frame, to fully stripping a piece of any layers of paint, varnish and even bad past restoration to find the original surface. Then once all repairs are done the piece can be patched or re-gilded and aged. I can advice or be guided by you as to the finish of the gold on your mirror, picture frame etc.
Feel free to contact me to discuss your restoration or commission requirements, think your job is too small or too large - ask me!
